I believe in the EU and it’s idealism. Although it is not perfect, the UK as a member can help mould it to become what it needs to be. I believe it is better for the UK, better for Europe, better for us all…we should be building bridges not building walls….
These are the main points I believe the OUT campaigners seems to be using…and these are the reasons why we should stay.
1. Immigration from the EU is NOT the problem. EU immigrants have enriched UK society in so many ways…they can’t not take jobs that simply aren’t there (why don’t you do them instead of whine that someone else is). Sure we could do with a better deal from the EU, but we can’t do that if we aren’t one of the major players! Members of the EU more or less share our own values, and a times we could adopt some of theirs…we are basically on the same page or at least in the same book. Open borders, open market means freedom of movement and prosperity.
2. Don’t use GREECE is a slave to the EU. Greece is paying the price for fiddling the books to join and the EU is learning a very hard lesson about convergence. What is important here is they have propped Greece up…remember the EU is much like a commonwealth where money is shared to bring the poorer countries up. This is altruistic and smart, as a prosperous Europe means…..
3. A growing economy relies on an ever expanding market. At the moment the UK in the EU enjoys a free market place of around half a billion people. To be outside it, our free market would be limited to the UK population of 60 million. That a lot of loss sales, jobs and prosperity. If tariffs should be added due to our reaction of the EU…that means EU products would be more expensive, and our products in the EU would cost more….sure there are other countries we can trade with, but I think the US has already made their position clear. And I don’t hear China saying anything! Let’s face it…if you were looking for a trading partner and a market place would you want a partner of 60 million or one of 500 million?
4, The UK is an essential part of the EU. Our withdrawal could do us social and economic damage, and it would put a big punch in the EU….it will stumble…as so will we…and with two neighbours stumbling…let’s hope they don’t all fall down! In the EU we have a megaphone to the world and the EU. Without it we will need to shout very loudly, but with China, India and Brazil all emerging…they have louder voices! I am an Australian, and even I can see the value of a project like the EU!
